Pearl of Great Price

'Till Death Do We Part
I’ve been married for 13 years to an absolutely amazing woman. I definitely got the better end of the deal there, but I have a bad habit: I take her for granted. Now, while it’s certainly not okay that I do it, I’m pretty sure I’m in good company. In fact, most guys I know take their wives for granted everyday. It’s something we’re all prone to do, and it doesn’t just stop with our relationships. In Matthew, Jesus is talking about the Kingdom and he says this:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” (Matthew 13:44-46 TNIV)
When’s the last time you thought about the kingdom of God like that? I mean, would you sell everything you have just so you could possess it? What’s the kingdom of God worth to you?
When I said I was in good company, I meant it. David had the same problem of taking things for granted that I do.
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” (Psalm 51:12 TNIV)
David had let that joy slip away. He’d let the truth of salvation, the truth of a relationship with the creator of the universe become something he took for granted. What about you? Is that prayer something you need to pray today?
